The shape of the egg is universal in it's understanding--it's a symbol for life; a shell that harbors nature's
promise. It has a beauty & simple perfection universally appreciated. As an art form, egg carving is
unique. Art on these eggs is not just painted on or decals applied. The images come alive by skillfully
carving into the layers of the shell.
Emu eggs are as unique as their carving, they have three layers. A Fleckstone green is on the outer shell
followed by a rich teal, and the innermost color is a pure white. Countless images using all three colors and
carving completely through the shell make these eggs one of a kind.
Ostrich and Rhea eggs are naturally creme & white. Color is added after the egg is carved (sometimes)
depending on the design. The Ostrich egg is the larger of the eggs and has a pure white second layer. I can
leave the ostrich egg a pure white, stain the egg to show what has been carved, or paint the egg after it's
been carved. The thickness of the ostrich egg is about a nickel thick, and if the egg wasn't tapped out you
could stand on this egg.
The Rhea egg is creme on the outside and creme on the inside. I almost always add color to the Rhea egg after
it's been carved due to the fact that the image gets lost unless the Rhea egg is carved complete through the
shell. The Rhea eggs are about a dime thick and are native to South America.
All
these birds are raised in the United States and I use the infertile eggs from all three birds. When they don't
hatch, I get to carve.
Personalize an egg with a Company logo, a poem on a Wedding egg with the Bride and Groom's name and Date, or
what ever you collect.
Call or e-mail for design ideas and pricing. I also
carve images on glass.
